Rabbits need things to chew all the time so that their teeth stay healthy and well-trimmed. Although wood is the most common choice, not every type of wood is safe for them. So keep that in mind when buying your rabbit some wood for their hutch and toys. Before grabbing wood in the backyard or somewhere, be sure to check if they're pesticide-free, untreated, paint-free, don't include roots, organic (as much as possible), and safe for your rabbit. Many common plants in the yard may also work great as your bunny's chewable, including some types of vines, wood, and other plants. You may also choose commercially available items like rodent and chinchilla wood, provided that they're non-toxic to rabbits. Don't forget to consider the materials used in your rabbit's cage and hide box, especially if they're wood-made. Rabbits see all items as chewing opportunities, so they must be all safe. Contact an vets De Pere, WI immediately if your rabbit ingested toxic wood.
