As hounds, English Foxhounds can be stubborn, and only firm, consistent trainers/owners can handle. It's best to begin training your dog from puppyhood, continuing it as he grows. All breeds do well with pup social classes, and you may want to try it on your Foxhound, too. Obedience training takes patience and time, but it will all be worth it as your pup develops into an excellent companion. Leash training is essential for this breed. In addition, always ensure that you take control of them even in a well-fenced area; otherwise, your dog will inevitably chase his prey no matter what you do or say.
English Foxhounds tend to bark at everyone, showcasing their baying bark— strangers are no exception to this. They also tend to be distrustful of strangers. On the bright side, this characteristic makes them an excellent watchdog. But other than that, they're generally easygoing and are therefore unlikely to become an ideal guard dog. Any concerns you may have about your pet’s health and/or behavior should be brought to the attention of a veterinarians Aurora, CO.
