Dogs have tough paw pads. The burning surfaces they step on have the same effect on our naked feet. If we cannot step on hot ground, dogs probably cannot as well. Simply lay your palm on the pavement to determine if it is unsafe for your dog to walk on it. It may hurt your dog's paws if it steps on hot surfaces for more than two minutes. Limit your dog's physical activity throughout the day and walk them during the late afternoon or early morning when the pavement is not absorbing the steady blaze of light and heat. Your dog can also wear thick socks or booties for protection. Though these clothing articles are usually perfect during chilly weather, they can make walking on concrete more pleasant, even for a few minutes. Consider taking your dog to the park, where playing in the grass may be more enjoyable.
If it is simply too hot outside, it may be time to explore other forms of exercise that you can do indoors. Any sign of injury on your pet’s paws should prompt a visit to your veterinary clinic Aurora, CO.
