In cleaning your Maltese dog, be careful when using various commercially available products and home remedies. Many of these items may damage your pet's hair. Also, don't let foreign substances/products get in their eyes. Most Maltese owners make a topknot on their dog's head to keep the hair away from the dog's eyes. If you do this, it's best to use some coated bands, which do not break your dog's hair. You may also clip their hair short to make grooming routines easier. If your dog's black nose starts to turn pink, it's a shine he doesn't get enough sunshine. So take him outdoors on sunny days. If it's too cold, you may take him car riding with you instead. Their food/water bowls may also cause pigmentation changes— it's best to change plastic bowls. Female Maltese dogs in heat may also have their noses turn pink.
Any skin and/or hair coat issue exhibited by your pet should warrant an appointment with a vet Crown Point, IN.
