One hour of daily exercise is essential to Irish Setters— which can be done in a lot of ways, like running. These excellent jogging companions can also swim, play fetch games, course hunt, go on long walks, and run alongside bicycles. Puppies, though, have a different exercise need. Eight- to four-month-old puppies can get the necessary training, exercise, and socialization with kindergarten classes 1-2 times a week, plus morning/evening playtime for 15-20 minutes, as well as a game of fetch.
Four- to six-month-old puppies need weekly obedience, daily half-mile walks, and outdoor playtime. Upon reaching six months, your pup should play fetch for 40 minutes every cool morning/evening— not on hot days. Continue limiting walks to one-half mile. One-year-old puppies can now become jogging companions, but the distance should still be less than 1 mile. Frequent breaks are essential and stay on the grass, dirt, and other soft surfaces. They may run long distances for a longer time as they mature— graduated exercise levels protect your pup's still-developing joints/bones. Make sure that your pet’s preventatives and vaccines are up to date before outdoor excursions. Call your animal hospital Wheat Ridge, CO for information.
